I grew up in Silicon Valley, got an urban planning degree and work experience in the field, then shifted to tech in the 1980s at Dataquest as a semiconductor analyst and advised VCs about 150 semiconductor startups. I have consulted to 900+ tech companies in the U.S., Europe, Japan and Asia, and in 1993-1994 worked at Stanford's EE department when the Internet boom took off. Since 2000, I've co-launched 10 tech startups.
